Saffron Powder in OOMA

Saffron Powder: A Concentrated Dose of "Red Gold"

Saffron, the world's most expensive spice, is derived from the delicate stigmas of the Crocus sativus flower. These crimson threads are available on the market in whole form, and they showcase vibrant color and unique flavor.

At OOMA, we get our Sargol saffron imported from Afghanistan in its original form. To make our microdose capsules easy to use, we blend the saffron stigmas. This process creates a strong and concentrated saffron powder.

From Threads to Powder:

Saffron threads are hand-harvested and then carefully dried. This process is meticulous and labor-intensive. Saffron is the most expensive herb in the world, often used for culinary purposes. When we learned about saffron's health benefits and mood-boosting effects, we realized that we could use it in more ways than just cooking.

Introducing OOMA's Microdose Capsules: a special blend of ingredients. Use them every other day to improve long-term focus, creativity, and mood.

Our Sargol saffron powder is our key OOMA ingredient. Studies now show that saffron may be a good alternative to synthetic anti-depressants. It can help treat mild to moderate depression.*

The Benefits of Saffron:

  • May boost mood: Some studies suggest saffron might act like an anti-depressant. It could help reduce symptoms of mild to moderate depression.
  • Cognitive benefits: Saffron may enhance cognitive function, including memory and focus.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties: Saffron may possess anti-inflammatory properties that can benefit overall health.
  • May help eye health: Some studies suggest saffron might be good for eye health. This includes age-related macular breakdown.
  • Antioxidant properties: Rich in antioxidants, saffron may help protect the body from oxidative stress and damage.

Defining "antioxidant": Saffron packs antioxidants, which act like tiny superheroes for your body. These antioxidants help fight off harmful molecules called "free radicals" that can damage your cells.

Think of free radicals as tiny troublemakers that can contribute to aging and various health problems. Antioxidants in saffron can neutralize free radicals. This helps protect your body from damage and keeps it working well.

Here's a recipe for Saffron Powder Milk Tea

Our recipe is adapted from and inspired by True Indian Spices.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon saffron threads (or a pinch of saffron powder)
  • 1 teaspoon black tea leaves (or 1 tea bag)
  • 1 cup milk (any type you prefer: cow, almond, oat, etc.)
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey or sugar (optional)
  • Pinch of cardamom (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat water: In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Infuse saffron: Add the saffron threads (or saffron powder) to the boiling water. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the saffron to infuse its color and flavor into the water.
  3. Add tea: Once you infuse the saffron, remove the pot from heat and add a large pinch of black tea leaves (or tea bag). Steep for 5-7 minutes, or according to package directions. A common ratio is 1 teaspoon of loose-leaf tea per 8–10 ounces of water.
  4. Add milk: Heat the milk in a separate saucepan until simmering.
  5. Combine: Pour the hot milk into the tea mixture.
  6. Sweeten (optional): Stir in organic, local honey or sugar to sweeten your drink.
  7. Strain (optional): Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any loose tea leaves.
  8. Serve: Pour the Saffron Milk Tea into mugs and enjoy hot.
